Harriette was looking out her window wishing she lived in a place that snowed. She had visited New York City with Fedora once in the winter, it was beautiful. It always snowed in all the Christmas movies too, so she imagined it would feel more Christmas-y if it was snowing.
She wished she could go to New York with Fedora again, but she had a feeling that wouldn’t happen anytime soon.
Fedora had been acting especially cold towards her lately, Harriette did not know why. Harriette was always nice to her, at least she tried to be when she could. Being popular was hard sometimes.
“Hey,” Collin said. Harriette turned to smile at him, Collin was always there for her, popular or not.
“Hi,” she said.
“Mom said dinner is done,” he said.
“Oh,” Harriette said. “Coming.”
Dinner at her house was always fun, her mom was the best cook ever and the twins were just so adorable. Especially since they entered school, they always told colorful stories about their days.
Today the story was about their new friend, Lizzie.
“She lives in a HUGE house,” Finn said, his curly brown hair bouncing when he moved around.
“Bigger then ours,” Willow said in her tiny voice, her hair was like Finn’s, curly and brown. The only difference in the twins, other then being boy and girl, was Willow’s dot on her cheek. Harriette thought it was adorable.
“She has curly brown hair,” Finn said.
“Like ours, but curlier!” Willow said.
“And she has pretty green eyes,” Finn said.
“I always wanted green eyes,” Willow said.
“She has two older sisters,” Finn said.
“Like us,” Willow said.
“But we have a brother too,” Finn said.
“Yeah,” Willow said.
“She only lives with girls,” Finn said.
“Her dad is gone,” Willow said.
“Like ours,” Finn said,
“We’re so alike,” Willow said.
“She said we could be triplets,” Finn said.
“Except we don’t have green eyes,” Willow said.
“Why don’t you guys take a break from talking so you can eat your food,” their mom said.
“Okay,” Finn and Willow said, going back to eating their food. Tonight they were having roast beef and vegetables.
“How was your day?” their mom asked Harriette.
“Good,” Harriette said. “Christmas is so close, and I still haven’t bought any gifts. Me and Tamarai might go shopping on Saturday though.”
“That’s good,” their mom said. “And you Collin?”
“My day was good,” Collin said. “I’ve been invited to go skiing with one of my friends.”
“Oh, who?” their mom asked.
“Amado,” Collin said, “he invited me and Bentley.”
Harriette still couldn’t believe Collin was hanging out with Amado and Bentley, Bentley was cool but Amado was not. Lately Amado has been moving up the popular tiers because he hung out with Bentley and Collin who were both very popular.
But before he was made fun of because of his flashy clothes, almost always were purple and matched whatever color he wanted with it, like yellow or red. Yellow and red do not go with purple, everyone knows that.
“Well, do you want to go?” their mom asked him.
“Yeah,” Collin said.
“Well then, you have my permission,” their mom said. “Tamarai, how was your day?”
“Fun,” Tamarai said, “I have a photography project with DaeRi and we started on that today. We have to put together a children's book with photos and words. DaeRi is an amazing writer so it’s coming together beautifully.”
Daeri and Tamarai were in after school art class together that met up every Friday after school. Harriette once wanted to join but she did not really like art, she just wanted to join because Tamarai and DaeRi went to it.
“That’s good,” their mom said.
“Her older sister go to a private school,” Finn said, back to talking about their new friend.
“Her other one is home schooled,” Willow said.
“They just moved here,” Finn said.
“Yeah,” Willow said.
“Well, I think it is time to clean up,” their mom said. “Go get ready for bed.”
“Aww,” Finn said.
“Can’t we stay up a little later,” Willow said.
“Tomorrow is Saturday,” Finn said.
“Alright, thirty more minutes,” their mom said.
“Yay!” Willow said. “Come on, let’s go play doll house.”
“Okay,” Finn said.
Harriette watched them run up the stairs and then turned to her mom.
“Do you need any help?” Harriette asked.
“Thanks but i think I have everything under control,” her mom said.
“Okay,” Harriette said brightly. She decided to go to library and chat Fedora. Harriette loved yhat she had a library in her own house, it made her feel like a princess.
Fedora was not online but DaeRi was.
Daydreamer: Hi
PrincessHarriette: hi
Daydreamer: We’re going shopping tomorrow?
PrincessHarriette: yeah, you’re coming right?
Daydreamer: Sorry, I have a doctors appointment
Daydreamer: But you guys can go without me
PrincessHarriette: okay
PrincessHarirette: we’ll buy something for you
PrincessHarriette: but you have to wait till christmas
Daydreamer: Okay :D
Daydreamer: I have to go, see you on Sunday.
PrincessHarriette: bye!
Harriette yawned, she was pretty tired. She went up to her room and changed into her pajamas.
“Going to sleep?” Collin asked.
“Yep,” Harriette said, getting into her bed. “See you in the morning, Collie.”
“‘Night, Harri,” Collin said.
“Don’t call me that,” Harriette mumbled tiredly, already half asleep. She soon drifted to sleep reaming about being a princess.
--
The next morning Harriette was up bright and early for her shopping trip with Tamarai. She ate some fruit for breakfast and then her mom drove them both down to the big mall. The twins came too because Collin was not going to be home and they could not be home alone.
“Can we go to the mall too,” Willow asked.
“Maybe another day,” their mom said.
“Why?” Finn asked.
“Because I have things to do at home today,” their mom said, “We need to get the decorations out of the attic, don’t you want to help with that?”
“Yeah!” Willow said.
“Are we going to have a decorating party again?” Tamarai asked.
“Of course we are,” their mom said. “They’re annual.”
“Oh,” Tamarai said, blushing. Since she was adopted she did not really know much about their traditions yet, though she was adopted five years ago. She was a slow learner, she hardly knew English when she was first adopted. Now her accent was all that was left that indicated that she was not American, that and that she looked hundred percent Indian.
“Tonight?” Harriette asked.
“I was thinking about it,” their mom said.
“Yes!” Willow said.
“We have to check to see if my sister is doing anything,” their mom said.
“Fedora’s coming?” Harriette asked.
“Of course, they always come,” their mom said.
“Of course,” Harriette said. “Silly me.”
“Are we there yet?” Finn asked.
“Almost,” their mom said.
“Yay,” Willow said.
“Are you sure we can’t go to the mall too,” Finn asked.
“Yes,” their mom said. “Maybe tomorrow, you can buy presents for your friends.”
“Like Lizzie!” Willow said. “I wonder what she wants.”
“We’ll have to ask her,” Finn said.
“Yeah,” Willow said.
“Are we there yet?” Finn asked again.
“Actually we are,” their mom said, pulling into the mall parking lot.
“See you later,” Harriette said, getting out of the car.
“Bye,” Tamarai said.
“I’ll pick you up in two hours,” their mom said.
“Okay,” Harriette said.
They turned towards the mall, it was the biggest mall around them, they had to drive out a while to get to it. there town was too small for a big mall like this, and their towns mall had way less stores.
“Too bad DaeRi couldn’t come,” Tamarai said.
Harriette shrugged, “there’s always next Saturday.”
“Yep,” Tamarai said.
“Now, let’s get shopping,” Harriette said.
She wished she could go to New York with Fedora again, but she had a feeling that wouldn’t happen anytime soon.
