The day before The Big Day

In the past three years Becky had changed a lot, she went from being a shy reserved freshmen to being a little shy still but overall a more experienced senior. Yes, a lot had happened to her since starting at A.L. High. She met Terry and Barry, became best friend with aforementioned people, dated Barry for a year, after dating some other guy in Sophomore year, broke up with Barry over the summer which led to her almost losing both him and Terry, but they patched it all up, and now they were starting their senior year.
That’s not to mention all the smaller stuff, her new interest in makeup and clothes, her joining the debate club which made her a ten times better speaker, and we couldn’t forget her foray into volley ball which was a trip for sure. She sucked but her team got into the finals and they almost won, but she kind of messed it up. But that’s a story for another day!
Now, the day before the start of the school year, Becky, Terry, and Barry were sitting in their favorite ice cream shop, the only ice cream shop in Broad Meadows but you could also get ice cream at the Deli but they just did not have as many options.
Becky was silently thinking about the next day and whether or not the outfit she planned back when she went back to school shopping was still good enough. She wanted to start out the year with a good impression.
Terry and Barry were bickering back and forth about who would win in a fight, Iron Man or the Hulk?
“He’s the Hulk,” Barry insisted, probably for the fifth time in this conversation.
“So?” Terry shrugged, “Iron man is practically invincible.”
Barry laughed, “the Hulk is invincible.”
Terry smiled and nodded, “You’re right. I guess he would win ultimately, huh?”
Barry grinning, licking up the last of his ice cream off his spoon, “I guess he would. Told you.”
Terry just shook his head and looked over at Becky, “What got you transfixed over there, Becky?”
Becky jumped a little, surprised to be pulled back to the conversation, “Oh, nothing. Just school. Tomorrow’s the day.”
Terry groaned, “I know! I’ve been dreading it since the start of the summer? Couldn’t summer last forever?”
Barry nodded, agreeing, “My parent’s are going crazy over making sure I’m prepared. They’ve told me a thousand times about the importance of my senior year, with colleges and all that. I don’t even want to go to college, but I’ll never tell them that.  Not until it’s too late.”
Terry laughed and high fived Barry, “good strategy!”
Becky scoffed, “You guys are gonna be poor, living on the side of the road.”
“The dream,” Barry grinned mischieviously.
Becky just shook her head and finished off her ice cream, “so what are we doing now?”
“For our last day of freedom?” Terry asked.
Becky laughed, “whatever you want to call it.”
“We could...” Barry paused to think. “How about we go down to the lake?”
Terry sighed, “we did that yesterday.”
Becky nodded.
Barry shrugged, “I’m out of ideas, we spent this whole summer spending endless days doing nothing. We’ve already done everything.”
Becky nodded again while Terry sighed dramatically.
“Well, this sucks,” Terry said.
Barry nodded, agreeing.
“Well, hey, at least school start tomorrow?” Terry said.
Barry and Becky laughed, that came from the guy who ten minutes ago was whining about how much he didn't’ wanna go. But hey, at least it was something to do.

Harriette lay in her bed trying to sleep the day before the start of her Senior year. She was supposed to be excited, and she was but she also felt a little prickly of nerves. I mean senior year was The Year, the year she was supposed to make all those future decisions and stuff. Stuff she did not want to think about, instead she wanted to think about homecoming and prom and her friends and... the good stuff.
But her mind kept wandering to college and jobs and her future.
She sighed heavily before getting out of her bed and walking towards the bathroom, for no reason other than just for something to do. She noticed a sliver of light under Collin’s door and smiled, he was exactly what she needed.
She opened the door slowly, finding Collin sitting crosslegged on his bed sketching something by the light of his bedside lamp. He looked up and smiled at her.
“Hey,” Harriette whispered.
Collin set his drawing pad on his side table and made room for Harriette beside him. Harriette sat down next to him and laid her head on Collin’s shoulder.
“What’s up?” Collin asked.
“I’m weirdly nervous,” Harriette sighed. “It’s just the same old school.”
“Yeah,” Collin said slowly, “but it is our senior year.”
“So?” Harriette said, “It’s not that weird. Remember Fedora’s senior year? Nothing too crazy happened.”
Collin was silent for a moment.
“Hey, you’re awake too,” Harriette said suddenly, lifting her head off his shoulder to look at him, “What’s keeping you up?”
Collin laughed, “I guess the same thing.”
“You know why I’m nervous?” Harriette said, laying her head back on his shoulder, “I’m nervous about picking out a future. I mean that’s what you’re supposed to do your senior year.”
“Yeah, I guess,” Collin said, “maybe I am too.”
“But you know what you wanna do,” Harriette said, “you wanna be an artist.”
Collin sighed, “but what kind of artist?”
Harriette was silent, thinking that over. Maybe learning that he was just as confused as her should have made her feel sad, but instead she just felt relief. She wasn’t alone, Collin, who was perfect in her eyes, had the same problem as her.
“Well, we can figure it out together,” Harriette smiled.
“Yep,” Collin yawned.
“I guess we should sleep,” Harriette trailed off, lifting her head off his shoulder.
Collin nodded, he pulled the comforters up over them and lay down, patting the space next to him.
Harriette grinned, “I feel ten years old.”
Collin just laughed tiredly as she lay next to him, cuddling in close.
“Thanks,” she said sleepily.
Collin just nodded as they both slowly slipped into sleep.

MERRY CHRISTMAS

MERRY CHRISTMAS TRACY
So Tracy was right about her bad feeling about her dad asking Patty to move in, because here was Patty acting all excited on Christmas morning. Yes, her dad had asked her to move in and she had said yes of course. So here she was having Christmas with the rest of them, with the previously two person family that was Tracy and her dad.
Her feelings for Patty didn’t change, she was still a space geek who could talk forever about the stars, but Tracys topped fighting it. She didn’t have time for it, she had to focus on school and graduating and getting into a good school. Preferably Berkley.
And she was definitely not gonna let her ruin her Christmas, nope not at all. So she ignored her that morning and continued along with acting as if she didn't even exist.
But that didn’t last long as after all the gifts were unwrapped and Tracy had gotten everything she asked for, as usual, and her dad said that there was still one more gift for Patty and Tracy knew.
She knew exactly what was gonna happen.
She wasn’t surprised when her dad got out a little wrapped box and gave it to Patty, watching her face intently. She wasn’t surprised when the gift turned out to be a little black jewelry box. And she wasn’t surprised when her dad got down on one knee. She wasn’t surprised when he said those four dreaded words. She wasn’t surprised when Patty broke out into a big grin and said yes, giving her dad a big hug.
She wasn’t surprised, but she did feel a little sick.

CHRISTMAS WITH THE BAEKS
Christmas at the Baek family house started when the last person dragged themselves from their bedroom. None of them were early risers, even on Christmas, so it always started around eleven o’clock.
The mom was the first person awake around 10:30, she started the coffee and breakfast. Next up was DaeRi about fifteen minutes later, she started getting ready for the day. And last up was AeGuk, who went to the Brown family’s Christmas Eve Extravaganza last night and stayed pretty late. Daeri had went to, but left a little early because she got tired of all the family fun after a while. DaeRi didn’t understand how Aeguk could just hang out with his ex girlfriend so casually.
At 11:00 they all gathered around the table and ate breakfast, all of them still a little asleep. They didn’t talk, but their mom asked them if they were excited. They just murmured some kind of excited nonsense in reply.
After breakfast they were all generally more awake and gathered around their small tree. They weren’t big Christmas people but celebrated it because everyone else did, so why not?
Presents were never very exciting, especially as they grew up and saw that other people got iPod and new computers for Christmas and they got socks. When they were younger they were excited for stuff like that, but it wasn’t the same really.
But they put on their excited faces and unwrapped  the gifts as their mom watched looking mildly proud. They got chocolate, socks, hats, and clothes. AeGuk loved DaeRi’s gift of the store bought mittens with little reindeer on them, saying he need them since the winters in New York were definitely something, and DaeRi admired the snowman shaped mug that AeGuk got her.
Their mom was ecstatic to get their gifts, a nice scarf from AeGuk and the maybe mittens that DaeRi had kind of finished. Thankfully they fit her.
After gifts they split up to get ready for the day and met up again before they split up to go out. They’re mom had a job to get to and AeGuk and DaeRi were going over to the Browns’ house to exchange gifts and just hang out.
And that was Christmas with the Baeks.

A BIG FAMILY CHRISTMAS
Christmas was Becky’s favorite holiday for many reasons; everyone was always happy during the holidays, you got to eat a lot of cookies, giving gifts, getting gifts, and best of all her whole family got together. And when she says her whole family she means her whole family. Her mom’s side and her dad’s side.
Everyone goes to her aunt on her dad’s side’s house and they give gifts and eat great food. There was nothing better in Becky’s mind.
And this year was no different, Christmas morning they all got up and got ready for the day. They ate a quick breakfast, nothing too big because there was always a lot of food on Christmas, then get into the car for the drive to the city where the aunt lives.
They spend the drive singing loudly to Christmas songs, Becky’s sister showing everyone up because she was a professionally trained singer and sounded amazing. The christmas spirit was thick enough to cut in the car.
Then they arrived. Their aunt had a big house which was why her house was the chosen place of gathering for Christmas. The second they walk through the door the crowd covers them and soon the parents split from the children naturally and all of the teens are sitting in the sunroom and all of the adults are sitting in the livingroom where the kids were playing around and surreptitiously trying to peek at the gifts. Everyone opens their gifts there, there is no opening them back at their house in the morning. The gift opening process takes hours with lunch in between.
Becky goes to sit with all of her cousin and other teens in the family, her sister was now considered an adult and went with them. It was weird to have an adult sister, time seems to fly so fast.
Once everyone is there they crowd into the livingroom and the gifts are opened. It was a free for all, everyone opened their gifts at the same time and it was a mad house. Wrapping paper was everywhere, the kids were screaming about their gifts and trying to get their parents attention. Becky got the usual stuff of a teenage girl, clothes, gift cards, makeup, phone cases, a purse, some games for her 3DS, and the big gift of the night a new phone. She didn’t know how they were gonna fit everyone’s gifts in the car, plus them.
They eat a big lunch of roast ham and the usual fixings then get back to the gifts, Becky’s sister got her a personalised phone case which becky was obsessed with. She got more gift cards, more clothes, and more makeup. More than she even needed, and she knew she’d have to go home and decided which ones she actually wanted to keep and get rid of some old stuff.
Then after all of the gifts have been opened and all of the wrapping paper have been put into a big trash bag they all split up again and hang out, playing with their new stuff or just talking about what they’re gonna buy with all the gift cards they got.
And then they eat a dinner of leftovers from lunch before everyone slowly plt up and headed back home. It’s a bit of a trouble getting the stuff in the car, but they do and Becky falls asleep on the ride home. She was awoken by her sister gently nudging her and telling her she need to help get the stuff inside.
After all of their stuff is piled into their respective rooms Becky is too exhausted to stay awake much longer so she wished her family and goodnight and then tucks herself into bed, falling asleep in less than ten minutes.

ITS CHRISTMAS AT THE BROWNS'
I’m sure you know by now all about the Brown Family’s Christmas Eve Extravaganza, and this year wasn’t much different. Everyone came over to the Browns’ house and I mean everyone, even Fisher, who disappeared, managed to get back for this party.
They ate good food, exchanged the Christmas Eve present, pajamas for everyone staying the night and slipper for the ones who were going back home, drank a lot of hot chocolate, and just had a good jolly ol time. Then they all went to bed. Collin, Fedora and Harriette all slept in Collin’s room together, they couldn’t fit on the bed so they slept on the floor in sleeping bags.
They talked excitedly about the next day until late, when Fedora was still talking and hadn’t realised that both Collin and Harriette had stopped replying. When she realised they were both fast asleep she laughed at herself and shut up, trying to get some sleep herself.
One thing on her mind was how unbelievably easy it was to hang out with AeGuk again, they just slipped back into the way they were before they started dating. Fedora had to admit though that she had been hoping it wouldn’t be that easy, that hanging out again would remind AeGuk that he did like Fedora much more than that Allie girl, but that didn’t happen. Fedora really needed to just move on.
All that floated out of her mind as she slipped into sleep and it felt like only seconds later when there were the sounds of high pitched little kid voices waking her up. Finn and Willow were running around them and yelling excitedly about how it was Christmas.
Fedora laughed, “gosh, remember when we were like that?”
Harriette and Collin sleepily laughed then they all sat up and stretched.
“Come on!” the twins cried.
“Alright, alright,” Fedora said, then turned to Collin and Harriette with a wild grin, “come on guys, it’s Christmas!”
She jumped up, acting all excited and pulling Collin and Harriette up while yelling “come on come on!”
Harriette and Collin laughed and followed Fedora down to the living, Fedora skipped the way there, almost falling down the stairs, making the twins, who were right behind them, laugh hysterically and copy her as they went down the stairs.
“Be careful,“ Collin warned.
The twins just laughed harder.
In the living room sat the rest of the adults and Tamarai waiting for them, apparently they had been sleeping late. On the coffee table was a spread of various breakfast good and Fedora over to it and picked up to cinnabuns, eating them quickly.
“Don’t eat too much,” Fedora’s mom warned her, but Fedora just shot her a glare and picked up another cinnabun before sitting down on the floor right in front of the tree.
Harriette and Collin got some food and their mom handing each of them a mug of hot chocolate.
“Alright kids, go get your stockings!” she said after they all settled down.
The twins jumped up and ran over to the fireplaces, grabbing the stockings and handing them out to everyone. It was the usual bounty waiting for them in their stockings, lots of yummy treats, chocolate, the lollipops that Harriette bought, and other little stuff that they might enjoy. Fedora acted super about everything she got and started singing a song about a chocolate bar she got, making everyone laugh.
After the stockings it was time for the gifts and the twins went crazy, jumping up and down in excitement and Fedora jumped up and joined them which the twins found amusing. Fedora was actually kind of good with kids, even though if you ask her she’ll say she hates them.
Everyone got fives gifts from Mrs. Brown, that was her rule. One expensive gift and then four smaller ones. And then there were the gifts from everyone else, who didn’t have any rules so they could be anything.
Fedora’s big gift from Mrs. Brown was a keurig coffee maker and her smaller ones were hot chocolate and coffee for it, plus two cute mugs. From her mom she got a healthy eating recipe book for college student, which earned her a glare from Fedora,  and some money. and along with those she got a bunch of small fun gifts from everyone else, Harriette got her an assortment of chocolates and the Bean boozled Jelly Belly games, which Fedora specifically asked for.
Harriette’s big gift from her mom was a BJD doll that looked like her and her smaller gifts were a mug, a gift card to the Candy Store, some tights, and some clothes for the dolls. Harriette was over the moon about the doll, as she had been wanting one since she found out about them. Fedora gave her a little cloth doll she found in a vintage store, and Harriette loved it.
Collin got a Pen tablet for his expensive gift, since he’s been wanting to try out digital art, and his smaller gifts were a gift card to his favorite art store, some new drawing pads, a set of watercolors, and an art book. Fedora gave him a picture she painted of her roommate, she wasn’t sure if would like it that much since it was kind of a silly picture since she didn’t really have any artistic abilities but he loved it.
After all the gifts were unwrapped everyone was just sitting around casually talking about their presents, Harriette was posing her new doll, Fedora was setting up the Bean Boozled games, Collin was watching Fedora set up the game, and the twins were running around shooting everyone with their new Nerf guns.
Then the guests came with more presents, all the people who didn’t stay the night last night. It was like a continuation of the party, everyone opened up more gifts and more wrapping paper was flung everywhere by an overexcited Fedora. Then everyone gathered for some lunch/dinner and they ate and had good conversation. After lunch/dinner everyone kind of split up into little groups.
It didn’t feel like long until the sky started to darken and people started heading home and the twins were getting tired and had stopped shooting people. It was time for bed already. christmas was basically over.
“Aw,” Fedora said, looking out the dark window, “I don’t want Christmas to be over.”
“Well it’s gotta end someday,” Harriette said, looking tired already.
Collin nodded, “sadly, that’s true.:
“Merry Christmas guys!” Fedora said, jumping up suddenly, “let’s stretch this day to the limit! It’s not over yet, let’s go caroling.”
“Caroling?” Collin said, “are you serious?”
If anyone else had said that they were awesome they were joking, but not Fedora. Fedora was just that weird, weird enough to actually want to go caroling at nine o’clock at night on christmas day.
Fedora grinned and nodded. “Let’s go, babes!”
Harriette laughed, “now way, it’s too late.”
”It’s never too late for Christmas Carols!” Fedora said, “come on!”
Collin and Harriette looked at each other, wondering if they were really gonna go along with this. Harriette laughed and shrugged, as if to say “why not”. Collin nodded and they got up and Followed Fedora to the door.
“Bundle up, kids,” Fedora said in a faux motherly voice, “don’t wanna catch a cold!”
Collin and Harriette laughed, but put on their jackets and shoes then followed Fedora out the door. Once they reached the street Fedora stopped and broke out into Joy to the World. Collin and Harriette shared another glance then shrugged and sung along.
Fedora started walking down the street still singing and Collin and Harriette followed her. They went down until they passed the first house, by then they had sang Joy to the World, We Wish You a Merry Christmas, Have a Holly Jolly Christmas, All I want for Christmas is You, I saw Mommy kissing Santa Claus, and White Christmas and they hadn’t stopped at a single house. Fedora stopped, and Harriette and Collin wondered if she was really gonna go caroling at this house.
Fedora laughed, “you should see your faces, you look so worried!”
Harriette and Collin laughed nervously.
“Lighten up, kiddles,” Fedora said, “We’re not going caroling at any houses, let’s head home, babes!”
Somewhere in the time since she’s been gone she had started getting into the habit of calling people the weirdest stuff, like “kiddles”, “babes”, and just “kids”.
On the way home they continued to sing a variety of Christmas songs, some of them they didn’t even know the lyrics and just sang some random beats. Once they got home they were exhausted and slowly went up to Collin’s room and climbed into their sleeping bags, after saying goodnight to everyone of course and explaining where they disappeared to.
“Goodnight, kiddles,” Fedora yawned, “Merry Christmas.”
“Merry Christmas,” Collin and Harriette said at the same time.
And they slipped off to sleep with dreams sugarplums dancing in their heads...

SWEATER KNITTING CLUB

“Sweater knitting club?” Barry said.
“Sweater knitting club,” Becky reaffirms, “A club where we’ll knit a sweater!”
Becky, Barry, and Terrence were standing outside of a room in the local community center, a sign was taped on to the door stating in big block letter “SWEATER KNITTING CLUB”.
“Why are we here?” Barry asked.
“We’re gonna knit sweaters,” Becky said, like it was obvious. And it was, as they were standing in front of the room where the sweater knitting club was currently presiding.
“Oh,” Barry said slowly “But why?”
“For presents,” Becky said, excitement in her voice, “we’re gonna knit sweater for someone in our life, I don’t know about you guys but I’m giving mine to my sister.”
Now Terrence was nodding, slowly but definitely nodding.
“I see it,” he said, “This is a swell idea Becky.”
Barry laughed, “swell? Are we in the nineteen forties?”
Terrence stuck his tongue out at Barry.
“Swell is a perfectly good word for any time,” he said.
Barry nodded, but he was still chuckling.
Just then the door opened and a women with completely grey hair stepped out. They stared at each other for a second until Becky regained her composure and greeted the women brightly.
“You’re here for the knitting club?” the women asked.
“Yes, we are,” Becky said, looking over at Terrence and barry. Terrence was smiling brightly at the women and Barry now looked kind of frightened.
“Right, boys?” Becky asked them.
“You bet it,” Terrence said and Barry just nodded, he wasn’t good around people.
“Well, come on in,” the women says, “I’m Patrice.”
“Nice to meet you, Patrice,” Becky said, following Patrice into the room.
There were a couple other older women in the room, along with one old man and a couple with a little kid.
“Hi!” Becky said to all of them, “I’m Becky, and these two are Terrence and Barry.”
“Nice to meet you,” the group said back.
Becky lead the boys to a group of three chairs next to each other and took a seat.
“Did you guys bring any knitting supplies?” Patrice asked.
“Uhm, actually no,” Becky said, laughing nervously, “Must of slipped my mind.”
”That’s okay,” Patrice said, “We have extra.”
“Thank you,” Becky said.
“What colors would you guys like for your sweaters?” Patrice asked as she walked over to a table with a big basket full of yarn and knitting needles.
“Pink, please,” Becky said.
“Uhm,” Terrence said slowly, thinking it over for a second before saying “Red.”
“Blue,” Barry said quietly, but Patrice heard him and acknowledged him with a nod. She brought over three bundles of yarn in their preferred colors and a pair of knitting needles for each of them.
“Alright, let’s get started,” she said.
And to say that Becky, Terrence and Barry left the room an hour later feeling mildly confused, with bundles of yarn that were one day, hopefully, gonna be sweater, would be an understatement
Other good words were baffled, bewildered, and maybe disorientated.

Becky, Tiffany, and Purity

Becky
Becky’s parents were strict. Well, not strict, more like overprotective so there were a lot of rules. She had to introduce all her friends to them before she could go anywhere with them, even if it was just out to get ice cream or something like that.
One of the rules was that she couldn’t wear makeup until she was sixteen. So for her sixteenth birthday her older sister got her a basic beauty pack with all of her faves. Becky had no interest in makeup though, she was fine without. But after her sister showed her how to apply everything she noticed that she looked a bit better with it.
Becky was not superficial or shallow. She had always thought that makeup was useless, why wear it if you look good without it. But after seeing herself with it on, the brown eyeliner, because black was too heavy on her light complexion, lip gloss, mascara and a little blush, it all just enhanced her looks.
So she was inspired to change or whole view on makeup and started wearing it everyday. This worried her parents, they thought that the only reason she would wear makeup was to try to pick up boys.
But Becky was smarter then that, she didn’t do things for other people. She started wearing makeup for herself, but it wasn’t like she didn’t notice the different stares. The good stares, unlike the ones she used to get because she was a “nerd.”
It almost felt like because of her makeup she could be popular. Which was dreaming high, obviously since she was a nerd. That was her group, the group of people who spent free time in the library, catching up on their studies.
So you could imagine her shock when Bachelor Carter, a jock and actually popular, walked up to her after school a few days after she started wearing makeup.
“Hey, are you new?” he asked.
“Uhm, no,” she said.
“Oh, never seen you around before,” he said.
“Well, I don’t really hang out with your crowd,” Becky said.
He looked confused for a moment, then suddenly Terrence came running over to them.
“Becky!” he exclaimed.
Bachelor looked Terrence up and down and laughed, “you hang out with the nerds? You’re way too pretty for that.”
And with that he turned and walked away.
“Hey, isn’t he a football player?” Terrence asked, momentarily forgetting what he came here for.
“Yeah,” Becky said, “He thought I was new.”
“Well you sure do look different with that makeup on,” Terrence said, “But not in a bad way.”
“In a really good way,” Barry, who has seemingly just appeared, said.
“Oh, Barry!” Terrence said, “Big news.”
“What?” he asked.
“The movie theatre downtown is playing ‘The history of Aliens.’” Terrence said.
“No way,” Barry said. “We gotta go.”
Becky tuned out a bit, aliens weren’t really her thing but lately Terrence and Barry had been obsessed with them. Plus she couldn’t shake Bachelor’s reaction when he saw Terrence.
“You’re way too pretty for that,” he had said. That line kept repeating in her head over and over for the next few days, sometimes she started to believe it. But she always pushed that thought away, she wasn’t gonna become one of those shallow popular girls.

Tiffany
Tiffany was a follower. She followed trends, nothing was her personal style. Last year she was into Japanese style so she mimicked lolita style, now she was into K-pop so she mimicked whatever they were wearing, especially Girls’ Generation. They were her idols, she wanted to be just like them. So she was.
She wore the same makeup, the same clothes, the same shoes, accessories. Anything they were wearing she was wearing too. She was a mirror of her current obsession.
She was always like this, so the real Tiffany/Sakura/Belle is a mystery. She doesn’t even know.

Purity
Purity liked the simple things in life, like going to lunch with a couple of friends, getting an A plus for a essay she worked all night on, pretty pink nail polish, and the vintage book bag she found at the thrift store for a steal. She didn’t need much more than that.
And really Prom was as simple as it gets, sure it was a big deal and everyone went crazy over it but Purity wasn’t like that. She thought of it as simply the big end of high school dance. So was she going crazy looking for a date, scouring online for the perfect dress?
Yes. She was.
Because she might be simple but after going through her whole high school life hidden in the corners with Payton, this year was different, this year she was going all out.
That’s why even though it was only January Purity and some girls from the A.L. News Committee, or ALNC for short, were gathered together on Jessica Perry’s laptop at lunch and looking at prom dresses.
“Pink is so cliche,” Amanda Leon said, the funny part was that Amanda always wore pink. Today she was wearing a pink t-shirt that read “What are you Looking at?” Amanda thought she was unique, but she really wasn’t.
“Hey, I’m going pink,” Jessica said, “My mom’s stylist said it was my color.”
Amanda and Purity groaned, Jessica always talked about what her mom’s stylist told her. The other day she promised that she would give all of them official reports on what color suited them.
Purity already knew she wanted white, maybe a creamy white so it wouldn’t look so wedding dress-ish.
“What about this?” Jessica said, clicking on a light purple floor length dress that has little rhinestones going down the the skirt.
“Ew,” Amanda said, “My dress is not gonna have a single sparkle on it anywhere. Talk about cliche.”
“It’s prom,” Jessica said, “It’s okay to be cliche. I’m going with glitter, Patricia says it’s okay to go big for prom.”
Patricia was her mom’s stylist.
“What are you looking for?” Amanda asked Purity, who had been silent up until then.
“White, maybe short. Some black details maybe,” Purity said, “Maybe vintage looking. And definitely not wedding dress-ish.”
“Of course,” Jessica said, “When girls come to prom looking like they're about to get married I just shake my head.”
Another thing about Jessica is that she had already been to two proms. Last year and the year before that. She was typical pretty and an easy choice for boys who couldn’t find dates. She never dated these guys, she just went with them so they wouldn’t look like losers, even though bringing a sophomore to prom wasn’t ideal.
“Oooh, look at that one,” Amanda said pointing to a short pink dress that had everything she just called cliche. Realising this she seemed to backtrack, “It’s like so cliche.”
But Purity and Jessica knew better, Amanda was a cliche person trying not to be.
Just then the bell rings and they have to get back to class.
“Hey come by my locker after school,” Jessica said. “You guys can come over after school and meet Patricia. she should be there since Mom has a gala to go to this weekend. Patricia is always there the friday before an important party.”
“Okay,” Amanda and Purity said. And they split up to go to their respective classes.
So yes Purity liked the simple things but to her Prom was pretty simple.

Ice Cream; “You’re so weird.”

Becky set her books down on the library table and sat down. She was here to study with Terrence and Barry, but they hadn’t arrived yet. She checked her watch, she wasn’t early so they were late. She sighed and opened her history book and started the chapter they were on.
“So sorry.” Terrence said, running up to the table.
Becky looked up, “you have to be quiet, this is a library.”
“Sorry.” Terrence said again. “Anyway, lets get ice cream.”
“What?” Becky asked, confused. Weren’t they supposed to be studying?
“Ice cream.” Terrence repeated.
“Where is Barry?” Becky said, noticing he wasn’t there.
“Waiting for us outside.” Terrence said.
“Aren’t we supposed to be studying?” She asked.
“Yeah.” Terrence said, shrugging. “After ice cream, come on.”
“You’re so weird.” Becky said, laughing as she gathered her stuff.
“Thanks.” Terrence said. “You too.”
They went outside and Becky waved to Barry who was sitting on a bench.
“Hey.” Barry said. “So, are you guys ready? I’m so hungry.”
“Yep.” Terrence said. “So where do you want to go?”
“Let’s just go the classic.” Barry said. “It’s just around the corner, so we’ll have more time to study.”
“Okay.” Terrence said.
They started down the street to the Ice cream store. It was a small store with no tables, just a counter with stools. A bell rung as they entered and took a seat at the counter, they recognised some kids from school there.
“What would you three like?” Asked the girl behind the counter, she looked familiar.
“Hey, I know you.” Terrence said. “You go to our school, don’t you? The girl with the pink streaks.”
“You recognise me?” She said, sounding shocked.
“Yeah, you’re pretty recognisable.” Terrence said. “Sakura, right?”
“Yep, you are?” She said, looking embarrassed for not recognising him.
“Terrence Williams.” Terrence said. “And this is Barry and Becky.”
“Hi, so what would you guys like?” She asked.
“Vanilla.” Becky said.
“Chocolate.” Terrence said.
“Mint Chip.” Barry said.
“Okay, I’ll be back.” Sakura said, heading into the back.
It was not Long till she came back handing each one of them a ice cream cone. Terrence payed then they left and headed back for the library. The ate the ice cream silently on the way there and were all done when they arrived at the library.
“I don’t want to study.” Barry said suddenly as they stood in front of the library.
“Do you want to fail?” Terrence said.
“Maybe.” Barry said, shrugging.
Becky laughed, “Is that why we went to get ice cream, procrastinating?”
“Sort of.” Barry said.
“You’re so evil.“ Becky said. “It’s sort of late anyway, let’s meet up tomorrow?”
“Sure.” Barry said, smiling at her. “See you tomorrow.”
“You too.” Becky called as she started back on the way home.
